Fathan Subchi, the Chairman of the Alumni Association of the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (IKA PMII) for the 2025-2030 term, has finalized the formation of the board for this period. However, there was a dispute when a government official, Carman Ansari Ear Latief, expressed unwillingness to be included in the leadership lineup. Carman, a Special Staff at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, clarified his position to the press on Thursday (March 27, 2025).
Carman’s Stance:
-Respectful Decline:Carman thanked Fathan for the opportunity but respectfully declined to be part of the IKA PMII board under Fathan’s leadership.
-Reasons:He cited the need to maintain neutrality, avoid conflicts of interest within the ministry, and uphold the dignity of both IKA PMII and the government.
Background Dispute:
-Previous Leadership Claims:The dispute arose from conflicting claims during the election of the IKA PMII Chairman.
-Unresolved Congress (Munas):Akhmad Muqowam, the previous Chairman, visited the Ministry of Law for clarification as the congress (Munas) proceedings were postponed.
-Alleged Unauthorized Decision:Muqowam contested a decision made in his absence during the congress, emphasizing that the adjournment was to seek consensus.
Current Status:
-Legal Standing:Muqowam maintained that he had not resigned and still held the legitimate position, pending the conclusion of Munas VII.
-Fathan’s Assertion:Fathan proceeded with a new committee and declared himself as the duly elected Chairman of IKA PMII.
The situation remains fluid, with the issue highlighting the importance of adherence to procedural guidelines and transparent decision-making within the alumni association.
